As an industry professional that has the opportunity to interact with college students and their parents on a daily basis, I have witnessed the opportunities and the obstacles faced by those who strive to become tomorrow’s leaders. It is apparent to me that in order to generate success for the leaders of tomorrow, we must provide them with a strong base of support today through the investment of our time, learning experiences, and financial support.

As you have probably witnessed in your company or in your community, outstanding leadership challenges the status quo and motivates others to help bring about notable results. The Bowling Green State University Generation Next Leadership Award Committee (BG GENEXT) is doing its part by identifying and investing in these emerging leaders.

BG GENEXT exists to make an impact in this community and nation by providing financial support to our distinguished next generation leaders. We achieve our vision by awarding scholarships to qualifying freshmen who will attend Bowling Green State University. Scholarship funds come from corporate and private contributions as well as proceeds from our Annual Fundraising and Silent Auction events. Primarily, graduating high school seniors apply for the opportunity to receive the annual leadership awards.

BG GENEXT scholarship committee members review applicant materials, interview applicants, and select the top student leaders to receive these distinguished awards. This is what one of the 2009 Leadership Award recipients has commented regarding her experience. “I feel that this scholarship will benefit me in many ways. To begin with, it lifts a huge financial burden off of me and my mother. Secondly, it's called the Leadership Award for a reason. I intend on learning and through mentorship, how to become an effective leader. Finally, this leadership award has allowed me to make relationships that outside of this scholarship, I never would have made! This award is great and very beneficial!” -Shanique Southward Lima, Ohio
