The James C. Duncan Award For Perseverance is a scholarship created in honor of NSCS member and former employee Jim Duncan. It recognizes  outstanding NSCS members who have triumphed over an adversity or illness, and are working towards achieving their educational goals.

About Jim Duncan
Jim was diagnosed with cancer in his teens and doctors believed he would only live 5 more years.  Not only has Jim beaten that diagnosis for nearly 25 years, but he has also continued to live life to the fullest.  He doesn’t  view his illness as an excuse to stop, but rather as an opportunity to work harder.

Jim joined NSCS as a member at The George Washington University chapter in 1995 and joined the NSCS staff in 1998. He retired from NSCS in 2010.

This is why James would like to create an award that celebrates NSCS members who are in a similar situation as him.
